The textile world has always been a blend of contrasts—artistry and precision, tradition and innovation, beauty and resilience. For Laura Adams, the founder of Kindly Woven, it has also been her creative home for more than 30 years. Through her work, she has always valued the importance of thoughtful production and honoring the craft’s deep roots, even as she continues to push boundaries and embrace innovation.

A Career Rooted in Creativity and Curiosity

Laura’s story began at a pivotal moment for textiles, when the industry was shifting from hand-painted designs and punch cards to Computer-Aided Design (CAD). One of her first tasks? Teaching a computer to speak “loom.” At the time, she didn’t even realize she was coding; she was simply diving in, solving problems, and learning how to make something extraordinary with unfamiliar tools. That blend of technical exploration and creative ambition lit a spark that’s only grown brighter over the years.

Since those early days, Laura has poured her passion into crafting dobby and jacquard wovens, prints, and patterns that celebrate artistry, quality, and an irresistible love of color. She’s worked across Contract, Commercial, Residential, and Home textile markets, earning a reputation for pushing the boundaries of loom construction to create truly one-of-a-kind designs. For Laura, it’s never just about the fabric; it’s about the people who bring it to life—the artists, designers, and makers who turn imagination into products.

The Vision Behind Kindly Woven

After decades in the industry, Laura began noticing a troubling pattern: artists and designers often didn’t receive the recognition or compensation they deserved. Although they are the creative minds who dream up the ideas that fuel entire collections, they were often overshadowed by big company branding or out-earned by sales teams. Meanwhile, smaller brands brimming with creativity were being pushed out of the market, struggling to compete against larger corporations with greater resources. This imbalance—this loss of diversity and fairness—didn’t sit right with her.

And so, Kindly Woven was born. Laura calls it her mission for “fair artistry,” and is her way of flipping the script. At Kindly Woven, creators are celebrated and compensated meaningfully. The woven product lines come with licensing options, sales percentages, and other opportunities that ensure artists earn what they’re worth. Their contributions aren’t hidden behind the curtain; they’re showcased front and center. Because at the end of the day, there’s no textile industry without their vision and creativity.
